CinfraCap
Carbon Infrastructure Capture (CinfraCap) is a collaborative project between Göteborg Energi, Nordion Energi, the Port of Gothenburg, Preem, St1, and Renova. The goal is to make the Port of Gothenburg one of the first places in the world with large-scale infrastructure for liquefied carbon dioxide.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) means capturing carbon dioxide and storing it safely underground or beneath the seabed.
Within the CinfraCap project, we have explored the possibility of intermediate storage for around 4 million tons of captured CO₂ per year for onward transport. The infrastructure – from plant to quayside – will be open to industries and other actors, able to receive captured CO₂ delivered to the port by pipeline, truck, or rail.
CinfraCap was launched in autumn 2020. In October 2022, the project completed its second phase with an in-depth feasibility study, focusing on technical design and presenting a proposed business model. The next phase aims to prepare for an investment decision.
CCS is one of our priority development areas, where we can use our infrastructure and expertise to help drive the climate transition.
