Nordion Energi introduces discounted feed-in of biogas for producers on Swedegas' and Weum’s gas grids from 1 February 2025
In June 2024, the Council and Parliament adopted a significant legislative package, the so-called Gas Market Package, which includes Directive (EU) 2024/1788 and Regulation (EU) 2024/1789. This package aims to facilitate the transition from fossil gas and enable biogas and hydrogen to play a central role in achieving the EU’s climate targets for 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050.
The regulation, which entered into force in all EU Member States on 5 February 2025 and became instantly applicable in Swedish law, stipulates that a 100% tariff discount must be granted on capacity-based tariffs for biogas feed-in. This discount applies to producers on both transmission and distribution networks. Every five years, starting on 5 August 2029, the Commission will evaluate the effects of the tariff discounts and reassess the level of discounts.
At Nordion Energi, our objective is that 100% of the gas transported in the western Swedish gas grid will be renewable by 2030. We welcome initiatives that promote domestic biogas production and contribute to the green transition. This is why we introduced the discount for biogas producers as of 1 February 2025.
