100% biogas
Today, more than a quarter of all gas used in the Swedish gas grid comes from biogas – a higher share than in most other gas networks in Europe and around the world. But we’re not stopping there. Our goal is a gas grid that carries only green gas.
What is biogas
Biogas makes use of waste from sewage, food scraps, manure, and by-products from forestry and industry. The digestate left after biogas production can also be returned to agriculture as organic biofertilizer. And when used as a fuel, biogas helps improve air quality in cities.
Biogas is a cost-effective solution for driving the transition to a sustainable society. At Nordion Energi, we are committed to further developing the biogas market in Sweden. In the first quarter of 2025, 39.3% of all traded gas in the western Swedish gas grid was biogas.

Strong demand for biogas
Biogas is delivered through the same network as natural gas, which means customers can already make the switch today. In fact, nearly all of our household customers now use biogas for heating and cooking. Industrial customers are also increasingly choosing biogas.
For the biogas market to grow, infrastructure must also expand. Nordion Energi is actively engaged in dialogue and collaboration with multiple partners to accelerate the build-out of biogas.
