Nordic Hydrogen Route
Nordic Hydrogen Route (NHR) is a collaboration between Nordion Energi and Gasgrid Finland to develop hydrogen infrastructure in northern Sweden and Finland. Through the project, we aim to accelerate the industry’s green transition and strengthen energy self-sufficiency.

Read more about "Do you want to know more?"Industrial investments in northern Sweden will significantly increase the demand for energy. To meet these needs, large amounts of hydrogen are required. However, the necessary infrastructure is currently lacking. Nordic Hydrogen Route accelerates the transition in both Sweden and Finland, creates conditions for new investments, and increases access to fossil-free and competitive energy.
Planned hydrogen infrastructure

New possibilites for cooperation
A well-functioning hydrogen market around the Gulf of Bothnia will position the region as an attractive investment opportunity, stimulate fossil-free industrialization, and create new jobs.
One reason for the growing demand for hydrogen is the steel industry’s ability to produce fossil-free steel using new technology. When hydrogen is used as a reducing agent or fuel, the emissions consist mainly of water.
Nordic Hydrogen Route connects hydrogen production with end users’ facilities through a pipeline that follows the coastline of the Gulf of Bothnia, with important branches to industrial hubs such as Gällivare and Kiruna. A pipeline infrastructure in the ground minimizes the impact on nature and society.
Nordic Hydrogen Route also enables Sweden to become a leading producer of fossil-free fuels for the aviation and maritime industries.
