Important events in 2022
2022 was a year in which external pressure created a great deal of uncertainty. At the same time, it became clear how important the energy transition in society is. We want to empower a changing society and help to make green energy possible for all. And we see good opportunities to realise our vision.
Despite major uncertainties all over Europe regarding energy supplies of gas, we have been able to maintain gas deliveries to customers during the year.
We have launched two large-scale collaborative projects to develop hydrogen economies in Northern Europe: Nordic Hydrogen Route and Baltic Sea Collector.
We increased our preparedness and vigilance due to the security situation in Sweden. Nordion Energi also intensified the dialogue with government agencies responsible and other parties in neighbouring countries and the rest of Europe.
As part of driving the energy transition in society, we have decided on a Net Zero goal for emissions in our own operations by 2030, which includes Scope 1 and Scope 2.
Nordion Energi received the “IJGlobal ESG Corporate Transition – Energy” award at the IJGlobal ESG Awards 2022 in London in October for its efforts to achieve a sustainable energy system. The judges referred to the activities we are carrying out today as well as the innovative projects we are investing in for the future.
In 2022, we reduced CO2e emissions by 27.5% from the base year 2021. Our special focus for many years now – to reduce our methane emissions – has produced very good results. Methane emissions fell by 50% between 2019 and 2022, and we are now taking new initiatives to further reduce emissions.
